Tirumala Venkateswara Temple is a landmark temple dedicated to Venkateswara, a form of Lord Vishnu, situated in the hill town of Tirumala in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh. Located on the Venkatadri hill, one of the seven peaks of the Seshachalam Hills, it is also known as the Temple of Seven Hills. Venkateswara is believed to have appeared here to save mankind from the trials of Kali Yuga. Hence, the temple is revered as one of the most sacred spots on Earth. It is widely recognized as the wealthiest temple in the world in terms of donations and wealth, and the most visited place of worship globally, attracting 50,000 to 100,000 pilgrims daily, and up to 500,000 on special festivals. The main shrine features a breathtaking golden dome (Ananda Nilayam) housing the majestic 8-foot tall black stone deity of Venkateswara, adorned with precious gems and gold. The temple has a rich history, with patronage from Pallava, Chola, and Vijayanagara rulers, most notably Emperor Krishnadevaraya, who made significant donations of gold and jewels. Devotees participate in rituals like tonsuring (shaving the head) as an act of humility and ego surrender. The temple is famous for its Tirupati Laddu, a sweet prasadam protected by a geographical indication tag. The Brahmotsavam festival is the most celebrated annual event, drawing millions of pilgrims.
