History & Historical Heritage
Sharada Peeth is an ancient Hindu temple and seat of learning located in Sharda, Neelum Valley, Pakistan-administered Kashmir, near the Line of Control. It is the seventeenth Astadasa Shakti Peeth, historically representing the right hand or head of Goddess Sati. Dedicated to Goddess Sharada (Saraswati), the deity of learning and wisdom, it was once a legendary educational academy of Sanskrit scholars, comparable to Nalanda and Taxila. Today, the temple stands in a ruined state within a sensitive militarized zone, though it remains a powerful symbol of Kashmir's spiritual and intellectual heritage.
