The Renuka Devi Temple is located on top of a hill in Mahur, Nanded District of Maharashtra. It is a highly revered Astadasa Shakti Peeth where Sati's right hand fell. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Renuka, the mother of Lord Parashurama (the sixth avatar of Vishnu). The deity is worshipped in the form of a carved stone face decorated with gold ornaments. Mahur is considered the birthplace of God Dattatreya, and the surrounding hills contain three major peaks dedicated to Renuka, Dattatreya, and Atri-Anasuya.

Sacred Legend (Sthala Puranam)
"Renuka was the wife of Sage Jamadagni. When she delayed bringing water from the river, Jamadagni suspected her chastity and ordered his son Parashurama to behead her. Parashurama obeyed, but requested her life back as a boon. Jamadagni restored her life, and she came to reside at Mahur as a goddess. The land is sanctified by the fall of Sati's right hand."
