"A demon named Daruka and his wife Daruki imprisoned a devout merchant named Supriya and other devotees. Supriya led the prisoners in chanting Shiva's holy name. Enraged, the demon rushed to kill Supriya, but Lord Shiva appeared from the earth in a glowing form, destroyed the demons, and established this Jyotirlinga to protect his devotees."
