Sacred Legend (Sthala Puranam)
"Legend has it that when Ganesha was married before Kartikeya, the latter left Kailash in anger and stayed on Mt. Krauncha. Shiva and Parvati visited him to pacify him, appearing as Mallika (Parvati) and Arjuna (Shiva). The place became known as Mallikarjuna. It is uniquely revered as both a Jyotirlinga and a Shakti Peeth (where Sati's upper lip is believed to have fallen)."
