History & Historical Heritage
The Jogulamba Temple is located in Alampur, Telangana, on the banks of the Tungabhadra River. It is the fifth of the Astadasa Shakti Peethas, where Goddess Sati's upper teeth fell. The temple complex is part of the famous Navabrahma Temples (built in the 7th century by the Badami Chalukyas). The original temple was destroyed in the 14th century, and the idol of Goddess Jogulamba was kept safe in the nearby Balabrahma temple until a new grand temple was built in 2005. The goddess is depicted sitting on a lizard, with bats and a skull, representing an ancient tantric form of Shakti.

Sacred Legend (Sthala Puranam)
"The name Jogulamba is derived from 'Yogula Amma', the mother of yogis. Sati's upper teeth fell here. The goddess is in a fierce form, but is worshipped to grant spiritual liberation and remove obstacles. The presence of Lord Shiva as Balabrahma Swamy beside her represents the union of Shiva and Shakti."
