History & Historical Heritage
The Alopi Devi Temple (also known as Madhaveswari) is located in the Alopibagh area of Prayagraj (formerly Allahabad), Uttar Pradesh, near the holy Triveni Sangam. It is the fourteenth Astadasa Shakti Peeth where Sati's fingers fell. The temple is unique because there is no stone idol or image of the deity; instead, a wooden swing (jhoola) placed over a marble platform is worshipped as the goddess, representing the concept of 'Alopi' (invisible/disappeared).

Sacred Legend (Sthala Puranam)
"It is believed that when Lord Vishnu cut Sati's body, the final fingers fell at this spot and instantly became invisible (Alopi). Therefore, the goddess is worshipped in her formless energy, and the wooden swing represents her divine presence."
